According to earlier sources, the Centre could announce something about the implementation strategy for the 8th Pay Commission in the Union Budget 2023. On February 1, 2023, however, no such pleasant piece of good news was sent to government personnel.

Expectations about the 8th Pay Commission taking over from the 7th Pay Commission in 2019 have been renewed by recent news. For government employees, pay commission regulations often alter every ten years. The latest 5th, 6th, and 7th Pay Commission implementations followed the same approach.

The 8th commission may soon take the place of the 7th CPC, which now oversees the pay scales, allowances, and pension benefits for workers and retirees of the Central Government. The 7th CPC was established in 2014, and its recommendations became effective in 2016. 

The 8th commission is expected to be constituted in 2024, and its recommendations will be put into effect on January 1st, 2026. The 8th Central Pay Commission: What Is It?

The Central Government has designated a group of individuals as the 8th Central Pay Commission to review the salaries, perks, and pension plans for Central Government workers. The pay structure and emoluments principles for all central government workers in India, including members of the armed forces. For CG personnel, the sixth and seventh CPCs suggested 1.86 and 2.57, respectively. Additionally, the 8th Pay Commission Fitment Factor is yet unknown.

Setup of 8th Pay Commission

According to Pankaj Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Finance, the administration has no plans to establish the eighth pay commission for employees of the federal government. According to Chaudhary in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the government is not considering any such suggestion for the formation of the eighth Pay Commission for central government employees. 

He was responding to a question in the House asking whether the government intended to guarantee that the eighth Central Pay Commission was established on schedule for central government employees so that it could go into effect on starting of 2024.
